THE RUGBY GAME.

MEETING OF UNION.

A meetikg of the Auckland Rugby Union * as held in the Amateur Sports Clubroom last evening. Present: Messrs. M. J. SJieahan. chairman. T. Aitken, F. J. Oklson. and C. V. Langsford, secretary. The protest entered by the City Club against the Ponsonby fifth grade team for playing boys over age was again before the committee. The onus of proof was upon the City Club, and they failed to establish their case last evening but asked for a further adjournment in the case of one boy The Ponsonby Club, however, produced evidence from the mother of the boy in Question to the effect that he was under age. After considerable discussion by members of the committee it was decided to adjourn the case of the one particular boy. A memb-r of the Marist Brothers Old Boys' senior team was put off in the final against College Rifles for disputing the referee's decision. He was before the committee last, evening and. after hearing evideice on behalf of the player, it was decided to eprimand him.

A match between the Senior Cadets' Association A and B teams its arranged for Saturday. The same will be played at the Show Grounds a' 3 p.m.. and Mr. E. Donovan will act as referee. The committee decided to hold the annua! charity match between the winner and run-ner-up of the senior grade championship at the Show Grounds on September 25. REFEREES' ASSOCIATION". A meeting of the Auckland Rugby Referees" Association was held at the Amateur i Sports Club last evening. Present: Mr. A. | Nicholson, president: Messrs. B W Havson. | George Nicholson. Geo. Grigg. A series °* patriotic matches will be played at Uevonport Domain on Saturday, the procoeds to be devoted to the Devonr>ort Convalescent Home for Wounded Soldiers. The arrangements are as fellows: City Juniors v. Rest of Auckland. No. 1 ground, 2 p.m.; Referees' Association v. Junior Advisory Board, No. 1 ground. 3 p.m.; Sunnyside fourth snide team v. Rest of Auckland, No. 2 ground, 2 p.m.: Snnnygide third grade team v. Rest of Auckland, No. 2 ground, 1 p.m. THE ASSOCIATION GAME FALCON CUP FINAL POSTPONED. A meeting of the executive commi'teo of the Auckland Football Association was held at the Sports Club on Tuesday evening. Present : Messrs. D. A. Williams, chairman. J. Halford, D. McLaren. E. Carmichael. R. Stables, and L. J. Warren, secretary. It was decided to carry on next Saturday with the championship matches in the second division. The players in that grade have not had any games for the past five weeks. The final of the Falcon Crip competition, a non-grade contest, will be played at a later date. The draw for the second division competition is as follows, the first matches to be played on Saturday: — North Shore v. Everton. Bayswater No. 1, Mr. Fitzpatrick, 3 pjn.; Brotherhood v. Tabernacle, Bayswater No. 2, Mr. Butter, 8 pm. Second round: North Shore v. Brotherhood, and Everton v. Tabernacle. Third round: North Shore v. Tabernacle, and Everton v. Brotherhood. An effort is being made to arrange for a. team to play at Htmtly. Saturday week has been suggested as a suitable date. Players •who are- prepared to take part in this little courtesy to, the Waikato men are requested to communicate with the secretary or some of the members of the Management Committee. _J. Howie was registered to play for the North Shore Club. Mention was made of some' suggestion that players who have been taking part regularly in senior matches throughout the season proposed to transfer to second division. It should be understood that such action is quite impossible at this stage of the season. BASKETBALL. ANNUAL TOURNAMENT. LARGE ENTRIES RECEIVED. Large entries have been received for the Auckland Basketball Association's annual tournament, which will be commenced on Saturday, and be concluded on September 25. The entries include 43 school and 18 adult teams, a total of 61 teams, or 610 players. _ The tournament > will be held at •the Training College grounds. Wellesley Street East, and there will be continuous play . from 1 p.m. to 5 _ m. Adults, will be charged sixpence admission, and children threepence. Miss E. Barr. Trainin2 College, is secretary of the tournament. The draw is as follows: —
