GERMAN ANGLOMANIAOS.
COLOGNE A NEW DRESS MECCA. The Kolnische Volkszeitung points out that it is an ill wind that blows nobody good, and if the roads to Paris, Rome, London, and Petiograd are to-day closed to German tourist*, they will be able to spend their holidays enjoying the natural beauties of their own country. _ The journal comments somewhat sarcastically on the cult of things foreign in Germany. Not so long since it was the ambition of every German of means to spend his holidays in Paris. Of later years England became trumps. Without " smokings" no dinner was possible. Breakfast was not palatable without "ham and eggs" and "Worcester sauce." Social intercourse was not possible without "cut-aways." and "five o'clock teas" drew all the wealthy burghers to the fashionable hotels, where " lift-boys " and "-messenger boys" stood around. In sporting circles especially this Anglomania went to inordinate lengths. Everything had to be from England—hate, materials, clothes, even although many of the articles were of German origin. All these are things of the past now, and the paper praises the way m which Germans have set to work to be sufficient unto themselves. Cologne is now leading the jratf is fashions in Germany, ,
