SPECULATION AS TO GRAND DUKE'S REMOVAL.
BRITISH PAPERS PRAISE HIS SERVICES. SUGGESTION MADE OF GERMAN INTRIGUE. London, September 9. \ British newspapers are unanimous in applauding the Grand Duke's services, and await an explanation of his transference to the Caucasus. • The Daily Chronicle says " The position of the Grand Duke is puzzling. Despite the Tsar's rescript he seems to be side-tracked to the Caucasus., Germany is likely to rejoice. To believe that the Grand Duke has failed is grievously unjust; he is very gifted and unselfish. The Russian failure is due the lamentable inadequacy of munitions. The Grand Duke Nicholas had also to contend with corrupt contractors and with treason." - -i The Petrograd correspondent of the London Morning Post states that it is no secret that many attempts were made to remove the Grand ..Duke, Nicholas from his command by violence, and it is known that the Germans instigated some of these attacks. • The Tsar farewelled the Grand Duke on his departure for the Caucasus- *-■■•■-*
