SALES OF WORK.

. j The sale of work held for the purpose of raising funds for the East Street Mission was continued yesterday in the Mission Hall, New?on. In the afternoon the stall-holders did a brisk business. The Ponsonby Boys' Band played outside the building early in the evening, and was partly instrumental in drawing a large crowd to the entertainment that was held within. A programme of vocal and instrumental items was given, and a humorous sketch, entitled "Who'll Shut the Door?" provided considerable amusement. Competitions of various kinds were held, and these were well patronised. The sale of work will be continued to-day. The Auckland branch of the New Zealand Church Missionary Association held a sale of work in St. Mary's parish hall, Parnell, yesterday afternoon and evening. The function was opened at 2.30 p.m. by Archdeacon G. Mac Murray, who referred to the necessity for continuing and extending missionary work. The hall was crowded during the afternoon and evening, and excellent business was done at the various stalls, where Indian and Chinese lace, etc., i Chinese . trinkets' and missionary books ! were among the articles displayed for sale. 1 The sweets stalls and afternoon . tea-room were also well patronised. An entertainment was ; given in the evening, to which i the following contributed : —Miss M. Wilson, Mrs. Speight, Miss MacCormick, I Messrs. B. Bennett, J. Haensler, N. Tate, and the Rev W. Lambert. The accompaniments were played by Mr. A. O'Hailoran.
