ADVANCE IN RUSSIA. CAPTURE OF PRISONERS. Amsterdam, September 8. A German communique states that General von Hindenburg is advancing in the Dandsewas district, southeast of Grodno. General von Eichhorn has occupied part of the marshy area south-westward of Vilna. The Germans captured Wolko-Wysk, on the Bielostock-Slomin railway, and the heights to the eastward and north-eastward, taking 2800 prisoners.

THE TARNOPOL FIGHT. Vienna, September 8. A communique states: '' Fighting continues along the Sereth. The enemy in superior forces broke from the bridgehead fortifications at Tarnopol and Strusow. German counterattacks repulsed the Russians at Tarnopol." i
