TRIAL OF OFFICERS.

CHARGES OF THEFT. ONE MAN SENTENCED. [nr telegraph.—PßESS ASSOCIATION. Dunedin, Monday. The re-trial of John Bell McClymont took place at the Supreme Court to-day on a charge of stealing £21 7s, canteen money belonging to the 14th Regiment, and he was acquitted. In summing up, Mr. Justice Sim commented on accused's good fortune in having been acquitted of the former charge, and expressed the opinion that accused did not leave the Court with an unstained character. A British military officer was supposed to bo a gentleman and a man of honour and integrity, and it was clear that accused was not that. His Honour sentenced John Robert Henderson to one year's imprisonment, with hard labour, on several charges of stealing the moneys of the 14th Regiment. He expressed regret that a promising military career had been cancelled.
