SIR J. WARD'S APPEAL.

NO PREMATURE PEACE. j [BY TELEGRAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Palmebston North. Monday. A most enthusiastic meeting of the I'almerston North Branch «.>i the National Reserve was held this evening. The principal speakers were .Sir Joseph Ward and the Hon. Dr. Mr Nab. Prior to the mn ting a large procession, numbering about one thousand members of the reserve, marched round the Square. Sir Joseph Ward, in the course of his address, urized the necessity for more men. He said that in the year 1911 the total male population of New Zealand between the ages of 20 and 40 was 193,250. A total of 110 000 of these were single. If necessary, over 128.000 men were still available for service. He also stated that 72.000 unmarried women in New Zealand were ready to take the places of those who had gone to the front.
