UNIVERSITY SITE.
Sir. am very pleased to see your very strong articles advocating the new site offered to the University Council. There aro several very strong reasons why the council should accept this site. On looking' at the County of Eden map, it will bo seen that this site is in the very centre of the county, being hallway between the. Waitemata and Manukau. and also between the Tamaki and the Upper Waitemata. The tram communication bv Mount Eden or Manukau Roads is good. There is a great deal of fairly level land in the block, and by cutting down a. few mounds and filling in the hollows the cost of making a very large playground would be very small. One has only to look at the new Grammar School site to see what can be done in a few mouth.*, as a short while back the ground there was in a worse state than much of the proposed university site is. but now the ground has been all levelled off and laid down in grass. The site offered for the university is well out of the way of alii great traffic, and is free from dust from any main roads, but is easily reached from two main arterial roads. It is a mile from the Remuera railway station by a good road, and the ground being well elevated it- commands splendid views, which it will be impossible to build out. For several years I have always looked on that ' site as the one and only site for the university in or near Auckland, and would bo delighted to hear that the council had agreed to accept it. I would suggest that the council again and again inspect that site, and also go to the top of Mount Eden and have a good look round, and compare it with other grounds, and I think that the members would soon agree that it could not be improved upon. Hope.
