GARRISON ARTILLERY BAND.
JUBILEE CELEBRATED.
The jubilee of tie formation of the band of the Auckland division ■ of the New .. Zealand Garrison Artillery was* celebrated
by a social held in the Druids' Hall, Newton, last evening. The hall was filled with past and present members of the band and their friends, and the function was a most successful one. . The visitors and "old boys" were welcomed in a short speech by lieutenant G. F. Cater, conductor of the band, and the evening was then devoted to games, dancing, and a concert, to "which the following contributed items —Miss Levy, song; Mr. W. Levy, clarionet solo; Mr. Bradbury, song; 'Madame D'Anthreau, recitation ; Miss D. D'Anthreau, recitation; Mr. W. Skerrett, song; Mr. D. Mount, recitation. The music for the dances was provided by the Garrison Artillery Orchestra. The arrangements for the social were under the charge of Mr. J. R. Williamson, who has been secretary of the band for the past 25 years. During the history of the band, the -following members" have gained long-service medals: —Lieutenant A. R. Hunter, 20 years; Sergeants J. R- Willi&mson, 16 and 20 years; J. Ewart, 16 years; T. M. Corbett. 16 and 20 years; H. Reid, 12 years; C. J. Bater, 16 and 20 years; Corporal W. Bain, 12, 16, and 20 years ; Private F. Connolly. 16 years; and Private J. Murphy, 12 years. The band's first conductor was Mr. J. Dillon. He was succeeded, in 1870, by Lieutenant A. R. Hunter, who occupied the office •until 1906. The present conductor, Lieutenant G. F. Cater, has had charge of the band for the past seven years.
