TAKAPUNA AFFAIRS.

NEW COUNCIL CHAMBERS. The Takapuna Borough Council met last night. Present: The Mayor, Mr. W. Blomfield, and Messrs. E. E. rim wade J. Collins, W. Lisk, T. Hanna, R. S. H. Biss, R. H. Thompson, T. B. Arthur, and Dr. F. W. Fullerton. The following tenders were received for the erection of Borough Council chambers —Grevatt and Son, £1772; F. G. i Fortzer, £1928 15s; G. B. Braithwaite, (£1975; J. Lve and Sons, £1997; G. H. Edwards, £2008; G. Rhodes and Son, I £2034; J. Bambury, £2090 McCallum I end Bull. £2117; Richards and Thomp- : son, £2366; and D. Jack (informal), ! £2289 10s. i The tender of Messrs. Grevatt and Son ! was accepted. ■. Messrs. Bamford and Pierce, the counI cil's architects, wrote stating that with their fees. £B8 12s. the total cost of the i work would be £1860 12s. I The Streets and Works Committee re- | commended, and it was decided, that a i sum not exceeding £60 be spent on tem- ! porary repairs to the carriagc-wav on O'Neill's Point Road. It was resolved that the footpath on the south-east side of Lake Town Road l>e extended for about three chains to the full width. The council also resolved to form a footpath on the north side of Hansen Road, and the west side of Purchase Road. Several requests were received by the council for the provision of street lamps. It was decided that these be favourably considored when new lamps are being I arranged for. On the recommendation of the Streets and Works Committee it was resolved that repairs to the footpath in Milford Road be carried out with shell from Milford Beach, the cost not to exceed £10. The question of striking permanent road levels was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee to consider. The resignation of Mr. Audus Raynes from the council was received and* accented with regret. The town clerk was instructed to take steps to hold a poll for the election of a councillor to fill tho vacancy.
