RUSSIAN CAMPAIGN.
I THE GERMANS ADVANCING. London, July 6. A Russian aeroplane dropped bombs on the (German lines and convoys in the San region. They also destroyed a train standing at Przevorsk station, exploding 30,000 rounds of artillery ammunition. The Austro-German objective is now the Ivangorod-Lublin-Xeholm Railway, which connects the Russian centre in Poland with the left wing in Galicia. The Russians are now in a more satisfactory position. The ground behind the Germans and Austrians is marshy, and the enemy's communications are bad. An official Russian communique states: "Towards Lublin, in the south-east of Poland, the enemy, after stubborn fighting, advanced on the front between Krasnik and the Wieprz. German attacks between the Wieprz and the Western Bug, and also between Krylow and Sokal, in the north of Galicia, were repulsed. We took hundreds of prisoners." An Austrian official communique claims that the Austrians pierced the Russian front at Krasnik, 25 miles southward of Lublin, driving the Russians to the north with heavy losses. Eight thousand prisoners are claimed.
