A Berlin ■ communique . says < that north of ~ the La Bassee canal, north of Arras, ; the Germans repulsed • ■ several i partial * attacks with" heavy loss to the enemy.. \ l ' 'General' Mackensen's armies captured Russian positions at Grodek. German troops on Saturday, with an Austrian-army corps under FieldMarshal Vonarz, attacked 'strongly- fortified lines extending for 21 miles north of Janow to , south-west of ' Rawnrpka.' They,- stormed the trenches in the afternoon, and drove the Russians- behind the great road running between Zolkiew, north of Lembergand Bawa Rush. Under pressure of this defeat the : enemy on Saturday night , evacuated the adjoining position. between Grodek and tHe Dniester . marshes, where they are heavily pressed, by the Austro-Hungarians between, the marshes and the north of Stry.
