" The chairman reported that he had suc- .; ceeded in obtaining the consent of the Public Works Department to attach a Sassenger car on ballast trains running rom Bickcrstaffe to the Otamatea railway : stations/ The secretary reported that the ," Hospital and Charitable Aid Board levy for the county was £612 10s for the curt rent year. tf&ln response to an inquiry from the ; Grown Lands Board tlio council agreed to undertake the roading of the Parahi Estate: It was decided to supplement tho grant of £75 for the Raupo ferry slip with a similar sum, and tho engineer was instructed to prepare plans for the work. The offer of G. New to lease the old Toad through sections 18 and 44, Pahi, for 30s per acre, was accepted. It was resolved to apply for a straight-out grant of £100 for Burgess's Bridge, at Raupo. The action of the engineer in reletting the work on contract 5, Tokatoka Block, was confirmed. An increase of £15 for fencing Pennyfather's quarry was granted; the tender of S. Mayall, £19 10s, for work on Hukatere Road was accepted; a • scheme for the expenditure of £188, " thirds," was approved of. and the clerk was instructed to obtain information re raising a loan of £2000 for Paparoa. and £1200 for Wh&kapirau Ridings. J. Harrison was appointed poundkeepcr at Wairan, at a salary of £26 per annum. It was decided to raise an additional 10 per cent, on the BuawaUßiding loan, and that the Telephono Association I>3 asked to submit alternative schemes for connection with the Northern Wairoi system. The financial statement showed a debit general fund account of £5223, and riding credit balances as follows:— Ruawai £105;- Tokatoka. £297; and Matakohe! £371. The total amount paid out of the general fund was £5036, and accounts totalling £1148 were passed for payment.
