ALARM IN TURKEY.

BRITISH SUBMARINE RAIDS

PEOPLE LEAVING CAPITAL.

FACTORIES SHORT OF COAL.

Times and Sydney Sun Service#. London, June 18. A correspondent to the Times, who is at Constantinople, says that Turkish families are emigrating to Asia. The recent success of British submarines has alarmed the Council of War. Several Turkish destroyers have been specially detailed to pursue the submarines. Activities of the Turkish fleet are restricted in a marked manner as a consequence of the exploit. If the attacks are renewed it has been decided to sink several old ships at the narrowest part of the Dardanelles to restrict the passage.

Factories are closing down owing to lack of coal, and the Anatolian railways will shortly cease running. The principal cause of the shortage is the Russian fleet's destruction of the collieries at Zungueddac.

Four German submarines are at Constantinople, one large and three small. The large craft arrived via Gibraltar, and the others were sent overland.

GREAT FIRE IN CAPITAL.

1500 HOUSES DESTROYED. (Received June 20, 5 p.m.) Amsterdam, June 19. An accidental fire destroyed 1500 Turkish houses in the Pera quarter of Constantinople.
