DOCTORS FOR THE FRONT.

MEN WHO ARE READY TO GO.

DEFINITE INFORMATION AWAITED

" I know of a number of Auckland doctors who are prepared to go to the front," said a prominent local medical man on Saturday. " I have no doubt that the authorities will be able to secure the services of the 100 doctors they have asked for from New Zealand. Oartainly there will not be the slightest difficulty in getting 50, and the balance will be forthcoming if really wanted. It is a simple matter for a young man to offer his services, but for the man who has a practice and an expensive establishment to maintain it is not quite so easy. There ought to be some arrangement bv which those who remain will carry on the work of those who volunteer. The medical profession has not considered the matter, but some of us agree that the course I suggest would be equitable, and all would have an opportunity to share the sacrifice. There ought to be some organisation in existence to deal with difficulties such as these. The trouble is that the Empire was not prepared for war. The British Army increased immensely in point of numbers, but there was no organisation of the necessary medical services. " The absence of 100 doctors from the Dominion would undoubtedly create many little difficulties, but I think those left behind could arranpa to carry on. It must bo remembered that a number of doctors are already on their way to _ England to offer their services. Quite a number of men are prepared to go when they receive full particulars of what is actually required. Definite information as to the number required, and whether they will have to go at once or not, is needed."
