RAILWAYMAN'S LAPSE.

Wellington, Saturday. At the Supreme Court to-day Axel Edward William Lythberg, a railway servant, who pleaded guilty to theft from a mail-bag, was admitted to probation for 12 months, and ordered to repay the stolen money within a week.

The Judge said that had the prisoner been a postal clerk lie could not have obtained probation. It whs not very much different being a railway official. However, although there was a risk, prisoner's previous character was good, and probation would be granted.
