THE ASSOCIATION GAME.

SENIOR COMPETITIONS. EVERTON BEATS NORTH SHORE. The Association football matches were continued on Saturday in unpleasant woathor conditions. In the first, division matches Tabernacle defeated Y M.C.A. by 1 goal to 0, Everton defeated North Shore by 2 goals to 0, and Brotherhood defeated Adult School by 2 goals to 1. The results were as follows:— •NORTH SHORE V. EVERTON. The North Shore-Everton match was playod at Devoiiporl on Saturday, and resulted in a win for the visitors by 2 goals, to 0. Tho score just about represented tlio run of the. play, for Everton was superior in all departments. The Norm Shoro team, which has been playing consistently well this season, disappointed its supporters, but the sido was rearranged, and probably this upset the combination. Everton had a. strong team out, but Boyne, at centre, was not up to the form exhibited by Baker aVul Cockeit. North Shore won the toss, and at tho outset rushed play to Everton'a territory, but the blue and blacks asserted themselves, and kept the Shoro defence busy. Baker, Who playod inside right, and Cocken, were vory clever with the call, but tho Shore defence was fairly secure, Horsley and . Samson putting lip (V stubborn game. Jenkins tried hard to got atvsy for Snore, but there was lack of understanding between the , frontrank and its support, tho halfbacks invariably sending tho ball to an opponent. About half-way through the spell, Everton opened the score. " Boyne got away on the left wing, he sent across to Cocken, and the inside left beat Miller with ft perfect ahot. North Shore made efforts to equalise, but their nearest approach to scoring' was a brilliant lone effort by Dacre, tllo ball just going outside tho upright. Tho hall-timo score .was: Everton, 1; North Shore, 0. On resuming, an' exhibition of lons kicking was given by Pitkin and Samson, who were the mainstays of tho opposing defences. In the second naif, Dacre went centre-forward, but was hardly a success. ,He was not resourceful in initiatins movements. Tho Everton halfbacks kept tho Shore front rank well in hand, but the halfbacks did not .give such a good display as usual, both Williams and Douglas being off form. North Shore forwards worked the ball. down on several occasions/ but Pitkin and Roberts kept them well out, and their long shots were disposed of by Craxton. At the other end of the field Everton should have increased t theii* lead, but Boyne was erratic in shooting. From a comor kick Brewen secured, and sent, on to Bovne, and the centre neatly screwed the ball into the net. This proved to be tho end of :;. the scoring, and when the final wnistle sounded, the score was:

Everton .. .. '•.... 2 North Shora .. -,m> .. . • • • * 0

TABERNACLE V. Y.M.C.A./ . The Tabernacle-Y M.C.A. game was played at the Domain. The wind affected the play and the turf was heavy. Y.M.C A attacked at tho outset, but the defence of Tabernacle was . sound and the danger was removed. y.M.C.A., assisted by the wind, had the best of the first spell, but the play was resultless so far as scoring was concerned. » In the second spell the. conditions were reversed, and - Tabernacle mostly kept Y.M.C A. defending. As in the first spell, the dofence proved good, but towards the end j, Stewart broke through and scored a goal lone-handed for Tabernacle.
