KAURI TIMBER COMPANY. HALF-YEARLY MEETING. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, June 18. At the half-yearly meetine of the Kauri Timber Company the chairman stated that during tho six months there had been a reduced output owing to a falling off in the building: trade. There had been signs of an increase since the beginning of tho year, but he hoped that they would be able, with fcho present reduced output, to keep the greater part of the plant employed, and so keep the staff together till the" demand improved. The freight question had been a serious factor in the export business. The directors, after careful consideration, unhesitatingly recommended the usual interim dividend of 8 per cent, per annum. FRUIT AND PRODUCE. I The fruit and produce markets have been very dull during the week, due to general slackness experienced in the retail trade. There was a perceptible decline in the price of fruit yesterday— especially apples. Supplies to hand are in excess of requirements, and prices are low, and the cold weather is also interfering with trade. Local lemons have again declined in price. Hothouse grapes still hold at late values. Fiji bananas are due on Monday by the Atui. and if shipments are moderate, and the fruit full and prime, good prices are expected. The potato market at the present is very unstable, and Southern f.o.b, prices are much firmer than values ruling on y the Auckland market. Prospects of an advance or otherwise here are uncertain until a definite decision litis been arrived at by the Government as to whether exportation is to be prohibited or allowed to go on. Osiions are in large supply, but the quality is not good. j Farmers' butter is scarce, and selling well. Fresh eggs are firm at quotation.
