GIRLS IN BANKS.

There has been an extension in the employment of young women in tho Manchester banks. Some of the larger banks have been hard hit consequent upon so many young men leaving to join the colours, and there has been no alternative but that young women should be appointed in their places. "It is an innovation," remarked a gentleman associated with one of the banks, " but it is one which will become permanent. The number of lady clerks in the Manchester banks," iie added, "is very small. They are just as good as the men up to a certain point, „ but you .cannot employ them for everything. 1 hope they will become a permanent feature of bank work, but the percentage to bo employed will be of limited dimensions."
