The awful effefcts of a shell from one of the Queen Elizabeth's 15-inch guns is described in a letter heme from PettyOfficer Trevor Williams, a' Glamorgan man, on the Ark Royal.
"The French flagship," lie says, "and the Vengeance went right up to the forts to draw their fire. The Queen Elizabeth is a beauty, and, without doubt, the damage ashore* is enormous. " Ono chap , told me he saw a detachment. of Turks start to rig up two howitzers. Directly they were spotted the Queen Elizabeth put one 15-inch in the middle of the crowd, and when the smoke cleared away there was just a holello guns, no anything."
