HERALD HOSPITAL SHIP FUND.

GRATIFYING RESPONSE.

TOTAL OF £6201 RECEIVED.

The Herald Fund to equip the hospital ship and to ensure ample provision for the needs of wounded soldiers before and after their return to New Zealand from the front is meeting with n most gratifying response, from all parts of tho Auckland Province. The fund now totals £6207 Is 9d, of which £4500 has been handed over to tho Auckland Citizens Committee. The Mayor, Mr. J. H. (Vinson, has forwarded the follow letter to Messrs. Wilson and Horton, proprietors of the New Zealand Herald:— " I beg to acknowledge receipt of yours of May 27, with cheque for £4500, which I note, comprises £4000 subscribed to the Herald Fund from the public of Auckland, and also £500 from yourselves. May I thank you exceedingly for your splendid effort in this connection, and also for your decision to support one general fund from the province. Your letter will be laid before the executive at its next meeting. The cheque has been handed over to the treasurers appointed by the executive, to which source the amounts received under what is known as the 'Mayor's Fund' are also paid." At tho meeting of the executive a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the proprietors of the Herald for their services in augmenting the general fund for 'he relief of wounded soldiers through the medium of the newspaper. Amounts of h and upwards may be sent by post to tho Herald, or may be paid in at the Herald Office, Queen Street, Aucidand, where a list has been placed.
