LONDON MARKETS.

HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.' [BY telegraph.— association-.] Wellington, Monday. The High Commissioner'*! commercial cablegram, dated London, May 29, is as follows :— MEAT. The demand lias fallen off considerably on account of high prices, but the market is firm, and prices continue high, owing ' to the short supply available for the general public. MUTTON. Canterbury, 63d; North Island, 6|tl; ewes, 6d. LAMB. Canterbury Rid for all weights; second wade, 8d; other than Canterbury, B£d for best quality; second grade, 7£dBEEF. Now Zealand beef 1 is not quoted. There is a moderate supply of chilled, which is quoted as follows :—Hinds, BAd; fores, 6Jd. BUTTER. The market is quiet, and mav go lower. Quotations : Danish. 148s to 150s; New ZeaI land, 142s to 1445; Australian, 158s to 140$; Siberian is not quoted. For Irish Creamery Government buying continues at 140s to 1445. Argentine is quoted at 138s to 140s. CHEESE. The market is very lirm on account of difficulty in obtaining supplies, Canadian of last season's make is cleared, and this season riakc is not yet available. For New Zealand tho market is firm, and prices continue to advance. White mid coloured is quoted at 98s to 100s. United, States is being cleared on arrival at 88s to 945, according to quality and size. English Cheddar is not quoted. HEMP. The market is quiet, with a tendency in favour of buyers. New Zealand : Good fair grade. £32 10s; fair. £30 10s. Fair current Manila, £39; June to August shipment, good, fair. £32; fair. £30; fair current Manila, £38 10?. The output from Manila for the week was 28,000 bales. ' HOPS. The market is steady, and holders are firm. English, 105s to 80s; California!!, 95s to 655. WHEAT. The market is becoming more depressed on account of very moderate demand. Prices are nominal. Canadian, May to I June shipment, 645; American, July to August shipment, 545 ; August to September shipment, 53s 6d; Argentine, on passage, 635. OATS. The market is dull, and very little business is being done. Argentine, on spot, 30s ; May to June shipment, 295. FRUIT AND PRODUCE. [by telegraph.— correspondent.] Wellington, Monday.

The extremely cold and wet weather is influencing the local market towards a weak tone for apples. The demand for pears, however, owing to small supplies arriving, is excellent. Other descriptions of fruit are only in fair demand. Quotations: Apples, choice, dessert 7s 6d to 8s a case, prime 6s to 7s, unpopular varieties 4s to 5s a case, cookers choice 4s to 4s 6d a case, prime 3s to 5s 6d ; lemons, Ss to 6s a case { passion fruit, 2s 6d to 3s a halfcase ; persimmons, Is 6d to 2s a box; pears, choice dessert 8s to 9s a case, prime 6s 6d to 7s 6d, stewing 4s to ss ; ' quinces. 4s to 5s a case ,- grapes, choice j lOd to Is a lb- Transhipments of Fijian ' bananas drew excellent competition at Friday's sales, and realised extreme values. For local potatoes the market is stronger. Quotations: 5s 3d to 5s 6d cwt. For onions the demand is quiet at 5s to 5s 3d cwt ; cauliflowers, choice, 7s to 9a a sack ; cabbages, choice, 2s to 2s 6d a sack; lettuce, ?s to 4s a case; marrows, 5s to 6s a sack; pumpkins, 7s to 8s a sack. The egg market is weaker at Is lid for I fresh, and Is 6d for preserved.
