Mr. Charles Rhodes was a passenger on the steamer for Whangarei last night.
Captain R. C. Hocking has been a?pointed temporary area officer and adjutant of the 3rd, Auckland, Regiment, vies Lieutenant W. W. Burn, N.Z.N.C, vho has joined the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
The death is announced of Cation Bryan King, for many years vicar of St. Peter's Chinch at Caversharn, Dunedin. He was aged 68. He retired about three years ago. Canon King was grand chaplain of the Masonic Grand Lodge.
'flip Hew T. A. Williams, formerly of the Baptist Church, Thames, ami latterly at Oamani. has been accepted for sen-ice with tlis Expeditionary Forces, and will leave New Zealand with the next reinforcement draft. He is at present at Trenth.im.
District orders issued by the officei commanding the district. Colonel .1. K Hume, state that the following have been appointed lieutenants in the N'.nv Zealand Forces' Motor Reserve:-!. .1 Walklale, H. S. Smith, li. A. Hurd-Wtod, R. ... Abbott. I*. K. Rrenan. and X. K. Davenport.
