AUSTRALIAN ARMS FACTORY
INCREASING THE OUTPUT.
SECOND SHIFT SUGGESTED. Melbourne, May 28.
The committee inquiring into the Lithgow Small Arms Factory reports that the only reasonable way of increasing the output at the works is the institution of a second shift. No difficulty is anticipated in obtain-
ing thejabour required. The works have feufficient steel to enable the output to be continued for a'year, without exhausting the stock. The
ommittee had been assured that,
recognising its national importance, the men "were ready to assist the
Government in every possible way. It is stated 'that overtime had in-
creased the cost of production over 50 per. cent., without any -.proportionate increase in the output.
