THE RUGBY GAME.

MEETING OF AUCKLAND UNION.

A meeting of the Management Committeo of tho Auckland Rugby Union was held in the amateur sports clubroom last evening. Present: Messrs. M. J Sheahan, chairman; H. Clay, T. Aitken, A. Twiname, T. Buxton, F. J. Ohlson, C. V. Langstord. secretary. The Preabyteriifn Young Men's Bible Class Union asked permission to hold a seven-a-side Rugby tournament at tho Show Grounds on June 3- The application was granted. Applications to regrade players were received from the Ponsonby and City Clubß. I llio application from the Ponsonby ciub was granted. As it would be necessary to rescind a previous resolution to comply with City Club's request the matter was deferred. It was decided to play the proposed match between 'the Grammar School and St. Stephen's College teams as a curtain-raiser to the match on No. 1 ground, Eden Park, on Saturday.

NEW ZEALAND UNION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. [by telegraph.— ASSOCIATION.]^ Wellington', Wednesday. A meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union Management Committee was held tonight. . Tho Tauratga Union wroto asking if it had any power to postpono or alter any of the matches set down as fixtures in its competitions without the consent of the clubs affected. A reply was sent that it was « matter of - local government and not within the jurisdiction of the New Zealand Union. Mr. A. Nicholson, president of the Auckland Rugby Referees' Association, wrote asking for the removal of the disqualification upon Mr. Angus Campbell. A reply is to be sent notifying that the request should have como through the Auckland Union, and that as the referee in question had been expelled from the union for being referee in a League game, the union had no power to reinstate him. "" The Wellington Union forwarded an application from L. Hepburn for reinstatement as a Rugby player, recommending that the application Im granted- The player is to be reinstated upon the production of his birth certificate. I THE LEAGUE GAME. EXECUTIVE MEETING. The Management Committee of,the Auckland Rugby Jjeugue met last evening. Present: Messrs. R. Benson, chairman, C. Baker. R. McDonald, R. Pollock, A. B. Powell, R. Tatton, A. Cummins, N. D. Culpan, J. Endean, and R. A. Bpinley, secretary. - The district traffic manager of railways informed the committee that he would arrange for a special train to leave Auckland at 2.10 p.m. every Saturday and arrive at Otahuhu at 2.45 p.m. A senior player who had been disqualified by the Rugby Union applied to tho committee to be allowed to play the Northern Union game, but it was decided to reply that the league could not accept him till the term of his disqualification had expired. The City Council wroto stating that it had granted the league permission to charge admission to the stand at Victoria Park. The Ponsonby United Football Club notified the committee that it had decided M withdraw from tho third grade championship owing to so many of its players haying gone to the war. The committee decided to allow the team to withdraw, It was decided that the junior match, City v. Otahuhu, which took place last Saturday. should be replayed at the end of the round, owing to City including in the team an unregistered player, and also on account of a spectator interrupting tho play. The minute carried at the previous meeting. that tho City-Newton junior match be replayed, was rescinded. Tho junior advisory board's decision awarding Newton the mutch was endorsed. , The secretary was instructed to interview the Tramways Company in regard to providing cars from Victoria Park on Saturday. REFEREES' ASSOCIATION. ✓ A meeting of the Auckland Rugby League Referees' Association was held on Monday evening, when, in the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr. R. Benson the vicepresident, Mr. A. Ferguson occupied the chair. The following members were present;— Messr- Fielding Ball, Vauso, Hill, Holmes. Mcintosh, Childs, Thompson, Beeson, Dcmpsey, Shaw, Herrick, Calthorpo, Whitley, Rogers, and the secretary, Mr. Murray. The sympathy of the members was acaided Mr. Eddocs. who on Friday sustained an accident which will compel him to relinquish tho whistle for some time. Mr. Beeson was balloted for and unanimously elected a member of tho association. He was heartily welcomed by the chairman, who expressed the hope that his connection wjth the association would be profitable to himself and his fellow-members. Mr- Beesen suitably responded. Mr. Clow was examined, and favourably reported on. The concluding stages of the, meeting were devoted to »■ discussion of various' points of law arising from previous Saturday s games. It was decided to extend an invitation .to I all members of teams to attend the association's meetings.

JUNIOR NOTES. To encourage junior football Messrs. G. Hunt and A. Asher have donated trophies to the City Rovers second and fifth grade teams respectively- The club highly appreciate the gifts. The committees will decide as to now they are to tie allotted. Mr. Hunt donated a set of jerseys to last season fourth grade team as an appreciation of their winning the championship. The second grade match between Bemuera and Thames Old Boys resulted in a fairly good game, which was eventually won by the former team by 11 points to 0. Ballantyne. Devine, and Bovaird scored tries, and Wallace converted one. . . Sunnyside A team defeated the City Rovers B team in a third grade match. For the winners -A. Turner scored a try and Dalton kicked three goals. In the same grade City A team defeated North Shore by 12 points to 0. James scored a try and kicked a goal, and Doran scored a try and kicked two goals. Newton walked over Sunnysido B and when time was called were approaching the half-century. For the winners tries were scored by Sheeran (41, Dempsey, Sanson, j Oxenham, Condon, Browne, and James, and I goals wore kicked by Browne (2), Condon, Sheeran. and Baker. For the losers a try was scored by Stowe. In the fourth grade Richmond had a hard game with Newton. For the winners tries were scored by A. Stovens, H. Millar, and G. Lovelock, and J. Davison converted one. For the losers tries were scored by Murphy (2). Newdick converted one. Bemuera had an easy win over Northcote, the total reaching 29 points to 0. The trygetters were Chatwin (2), Bovaird (2), Spratt, Eastwood, and Chapman. Goals were kicked by Chapman (2), Chatwin, and Yardley.

THE ASSOCIATION GAMS. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the Auckland Football Association was held in the Sports Club, His Majesty's Arcade, on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs. D. A. William (chairman), McLaran, Carznichael, Dance, Harrison, Kirk. Philp, Bannister, Wright, and I Harvey. The Y.M.C.A. Boys' League forwarded a protest in regard _to the docision of the A.F.A. recently delivered in connection with their application for affiliation with the A.F.A., and requested it to be forwarded to the New Zealand Council. It was decided to return the correspondence and inform the league that the correct procedure was for them to communicate directly with the governing body,, as the league did not come under the Auckland Association's control. The referee in the Hotspur-Pukekoho match, played on the latter club's ground, reported that one of Hotspur's players i ted offensive language after the match had concluded and when asked for his name refused to supply it. The secretary was instructed to write to the Hotspur Club demanding the offender's name, and also to inform the club that in the i event of the required information not being forthcoming befoie Saturday next tho club as a whole would be dealt with.
