THE GOLD RETURNS.

£71,367 FOR APRIL.

Thb gold returns to hand from mines in the Auckland Province for the month of April represented a total of £71,367 6s lid, Compared with tBo figures for March, last month's total showed a decrease of £17,922 18s 7d. This is partly accounted for by the fact that in March there were two returns from the Waihi Grand Junction Gold Company, Ltd. In comparison with the total for the corresponding period of 1914, last month's figures show a shrinkage of £23,525 10s. 3d. The reason for this is that in April of last year there were two returns from the Waihi Grand Junction Gold Company, in addition to several from the Thames and Coroniandel .districts- Last month there were only three returns from Thames, and none from Coromandel.

For the four-weekly period ended April 24, the Waihi-Paeroa Gold Extraction Company, Ltd., treated 12,200 tons of tailings for a return of £3150. The company has now treated 420,200 tons of tailings for a total return of £131,561, made us as under: —

The manager of the New Sylvia mine, Thames, reports that 810 tons of ore have been crushed and treated for a yield of bullion valued at £718, and concentrates valued at £240, making a total return of £958. FOUR-IN-HAND. The sinking of the winze at the Fonr-in-Hand mine, Coromandel, was resumed last week. The reef showed' strong dabs and colours of gold. MONOWAI.

The rise over the north drive, No. 1 level, Monowai mine, Waiomo, was advanced from 15ft'l5 28ft last week. From 15ft to 22ft the handnffwall portion of the lode carried a little nijjh-grade ore.
