UNDER LEAGUE RULES. A SUCCESSFUL SEASON. ANNUAL MEETING 01- LEAGUE. The annual meeting of the Auckland Rugby League was held in the Chamber of Commerce last night, when the president, Mr. A. M. Myers, M.P., was in the chair. There was a good attendance of members. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, which have already been published, the chairman congratulated the league on the satisfactory results attained last year. The standard of the game, as pluyed here, he said, had been greatly improved, and there was no doubt that from the spectacular point of view the League game compared favourably with any other form of sport. It had been contended that there was no justification for League football at all. but as an ardent devotee of Rugby he would say that there was room for both. " What we want," he remarked, " is more players and fewer onlookers. What is the use of 50 trained men and 10,000 onlookers? Therefore, if the League game attracts a large number of players, who possibly for various reasons are not attracted to the 'good old Rugby game.' it is performing a good service." Mr Myers referred to the visit of the English League team, and hoped that on some future occasion a New Zealand League team would visit Erelancl nnd emulate the achievements of the " All Blacks." An examination of the balance-sheet, he added, showed that the executive had attended to the affaire of the league in a creditable manner. The report and balance-sheet wen adopted. Vole* of thanks were passe' to Mr P. W. Roone for the donation of a silver " rooster." to be competed for annually amongst the club«. and to Mr. J.
