Tnn special campaign undertaken to raise £10,000 for the Belgian Relief Fund, in order that the Lindauer collection of Maori pictures may bo secured for the city, has been successfully inaugurated. Since the offer by Mr. Partridge was announced a number of subscriptions towards the fund have been received by the Acting-Consul for Belgium, and the first list forwarded by Mr. Burns for publication shows a total of £1036 3s Bd. Tho contributions to the fund include the sum of £500 from the Auckland Club, and £100 from the New Zealand Insurance Company. A further subscription of £100 has been received from the Coromandel Acclimatisation Society, bringing the sum of its contributions up to £250. HERALD FUND OPENED.

DONATIONS INVITED APPEAL TO TOWN AND COUNTRY. A fund has been opened at the Herald Office to assist in the renewed effort being made for an Auckland contribution to the relief of distress in Belgium. The appeal has the dual purpose of ensuring a substantial contribution from the province towards the alleviation of the suffering caused in Belgium by the devastation of war and securing the fulfilment of the condition made by Mr. H. E. Partridge in offering the Lindauer collection as a gift to the city in the event of £10,000 being subscribed to the Belgian Fund. Both these objects should receive the practical assistance of residents in all parts of the province. The Herald Fund will facilitate the collection of subscriptions, large or small, from both city and province, and particularly from the more remote districts. Donation!! may be sent by mail to the Herald Office, Auckland, or paid at the office, where a list will be found. All subscriptions to the Herald Fund will be acknowledged in the columns of the Herald. Oakarij, Monday.

For several years Oaraaru has held a garden fete on Easter Monday, the proceeds going towards town improvements, etc. It was decided this year that the Belgian Fund should benefit, and a queen of the carnival competition was arranged. The net result of to-day's remarkably successful fete is not yet known, but at least £6500 will be available for the Belgian Fund, and this will bring the district's contribution up to over £11,000.
