SECOND EDITION.

ANOTHER STEAMER SUNK.

OFF DEVONSHIRE COAST.

ALL THE CREW RESCUED.

(Received April 5, 2 ft.m

London, April 3-

The Middlesbrough steamer Lockwood, of 1143 tons, has been torpedoed and sunk off Start Point, off the coast of Devonshire. The vessel was sent speed ahead, and was cleverly manoeuvred, making it impossible for the enemy's submarine to get in a straight shot. Later a heavy sea struck the Lockwood, preventing her from answering her helm. The submarine fired two ineffective torpedoes, and then rapidly closing in fired a third at a range of 50yds. The torpedo struck the steamer amidships, and the explosion badly damaged her. A smack picked up the crew of 22. A message from Paris states that the French fishing boat Paqucrette was torpedoed off Fecamp. The crew were saved.
