A BRIEF SITTING
A young man named Charles Oscar Sandos Johanson appeared before Mr. W. L. Salter, J.P., at the Police Court on Saturday morning charged with being disorderly while drunk in Grey Street. Evidence was given by Constable Collins to the effect that he saw the accused stop beside two women and apparently speak to them. They called witness and accused refused to go away, stating that the women were friends of his. He was slightly under the influence of liquor, and was arrested. Accused said he stopped beside the women because he thought he recognised one of them. Ho did not j speak to them or insult them in any way. The Bench imposed a fine of £2, in default one month's imprisonment, Nine first offenders for drunkenness were each fined 5s and costs, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Amelia Sutcliffe, Alice Hartley, Frank Roberts, Henry Williams, and James Burke, second offenders, were each fined 10s and costs. Michael Higgins, who made his third appearance within six months, was fined £1 and costs, in default one month's imprisonment. Martin Prendergast, for drunkenness and resisting the police, was fined 20s. Patrick Murphy and Aubrey Preston were convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon on charges of vagrancy.
