Nelson was defeated in the Canterbury Cup on each occasion that ho contested that ' race. Gpoet, Whangarei.—The following mares have won the New Zealand Cup .-—Spade Guinea (18S6), Rosefoldt (1693), Lady Zetland (1896), Tortulla (1901), Lady Lucy (1909), Sinapis (1913). In the race of 1900 Ideal ran ft dead heat with Fulman (or first place, and last year Warstep dead-deatcd with Indigo, The first contest for the New Zealand Cup, at Riccarton, took place in 1883.
