The annual conference was officially opened by the Mayor of Auckland yesterday afternoon. .Mr. Parr said it gave him great pleasure to welcome members of tho Bible Class Union. He was sure that it would do tho young men a great deal of good to get away from the bustle of city life and spend a few days at this delightful spot. The union had set itself to tight the evils that assailed the country and they were doing good work for tho Dominion. The Rev. H. W. Johnston, moderator of the presbytery, convoyed to the delegates a hearty welcome from the presbytery. Mr. J. L. Hay, president of the union, addressed the meeting at some length. Ho referrxl to the war and pointed out i that the union had nobly responded to tho I Empire's call and was well represented at the front, the members with the expedi- j tionary force including three district sec- j retaries whose places were difficult to fill. | The conference received greetings from ; members with tho expeditionary force and resolved to send a cablegram reciprocating ! the good wishes. Tho question of leader- , ship training was discussed and it was de- ; cided that umall circles should be formed i in connection with Bible classes through- ; ' out the Dominion to encourage likely j I leaders.
