HEAD OF WATKATO REBELLION'
(From th« Herald of February 3. 1565.1 T:je important intelligence that Wi Tamihana. the Duke of U'aikato." and bead of the Waikato rebellion, had surrendered ye tcrday t.. Brieadier-General Carey, was fully ron firmed last night by a telegraphic message received from the Governor.
It appears that a few days since Thompson cent word to General Carey, statinth.it if the latter would send two officers to him he vrorild accompany them to tht» general's headquarters at Tc Awamut;, or. if desired, to the Governor in Auckland. General Carey immediately cf spatched Captain Blewitt. of the" 65th. and Captain Baker. ■:' the 13th. to h;s grace's wharf-. nd the telegram reoe:v<--f last night- confirms the report that the two officers had returned to General Careys headquarters at To Awamutu, accompanied by Thompson.
