The balance-sheet for the last half-year of the various State undertakings shows a net profit of £15,154. The State lime and brick works and timber yard were run at a loss. NEWSPAPERS A COMMODITY. COMMISSION'S RULING. (Received February 2, 10 p.m. ) Synsr.Y, February 2. As an outcome of the newsvendors" strike, which is still in progress, the Commodities Commission has asked the proprietors of the evening papers to show cause for increasing the price of papers. The chairman ruled that the commission had power to deal with any article provided the Government was satisfied that it was a necessary commodity. AMALGAMATION OF UNIONS. Brisbane, February 2. The Queensland branch of the Meat Employees' Association has joined the Australian Workers' Union. It is anticipated that the ether branches will also amalgamate.
