TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION.

The annual meeting of the Auckland Typographical Union was held on Saturday evening in the Trades Hall. There was a fair attendance of members, and the president, Mr. J. Buchanan, occupied the chair. The report and balance-sheet

showed the union to be in a flourishing condition, notwithstanding the dulness of trade, occasioned by the war. The receipts for the past half-year amounted to : £116 9s. This, added to the balance brought forward from June 30£369 Is Bd—gave a total on the income side of £485 10s Bd. The expenditure" amounted to £108 10s 3d, leaving a balance to the union's credit of £377 0s sd, an increase of £8 0s 9d for the half-year. The amount paid in out-of-work, travelling, and retir- •' ing allowances was £29. Although eight members had left with the expeditionary forces, and several others had left the district or retired from the trade, the membership —including seven new members Various matters of interest to the craft were dealt with in the report, and congratulatory reference was made to the success of Mr. A. Walker, secretary of the Otago Typographical Union, in winning the Parliamentary seat for Dunedih North; also to the success.of Mr. W. T. Jennings, a former president of the union, in regaining the Taumarunui seat. Mr. Walker forwarded a letter of acknowledgement, and Mr. Jennings, who was present at the meeting for ■» short time, expressed his gratification at receiving the union's congratulations, and tnen made some interesting remarks—reminiscent and otherwise. He was heartily applauded. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, and the election of officers and delegates for the current year then took place, resulting as follows: President. Mr. F. Christmas vice-presidsnt. Mr. J. Graham: secretary. Mr. F. A. Cleveland (re-elected); trustees, Messrs. F. Armiger and J. C- Chappell (both re-elected): general board members, Messrs. H. W. Brookes and C. E. Liversidge (both reelected) : delegates to Labour Day Committee. Messrs. C. E. Liversidge, R. B. Calthorpe. and R. J. Simpson. The secretary was elected as the union's delegate to the conference of allied printing trades, to be held in Wellington at Easter. Tt was resolved that a suitable souvenir be presented to the retiring president. Mr. Buchanan, who had occupied the position for two years
