DEVONPORT COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Devonport Borough Council was held last night, there being present the Mayor, Mr. \V. Handlev, and .Messrs. D. \V. McLean. J. C. Webster, P. N. McCallum, J. Henderson, J. K. Hatty, A. M. Pickford, and A. Nixon.
The borough engineer reported that it had been found necessary to supplement the water supply on Rangitoto by providing a 400-gallon tank, which is filled from time to time by the Ferry Company. A shortage of water on the island had" been caused by the prolonged dry weather, and by the extravagant use of the water stored. The work of forming the Islington Baytrack was proceeding satisfactorily. The engineer also reported that the metalling of the new roadway at Narrow Neck is nearly complete, and that the majority "of the paths in the western portion of the borough have been tarred and sanded.
Leave was granted the engineer to attend the annual conference in Dunedin of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers, thv! sum of £5 being granted towards his expenses. Owners of vacant sections in the borough whereon gorse is growing will be. warned that they must burn off under proper supervision, or else be liable for anv expense if the fire brigade have to be called out.
The sum of £10 was voted towards the expenses of a delegate and team attending the. annual fire brigades' conference at Timaru.
