MOUNTED RIFLE CLUB.

MARCH TO BROWN'S BAY.

The Auckland Mounted Rifle Club had a route march to Brown's Bay during the weekend. From Devonport to the bay and from the bay to Northcote the manoeuvres and formation adopted by a column on the march through hostile country were carried out, ancT on several occasions an imaginary enemy had to be dislodged from various positions.

Some of the shooting was excellent, while some was indifferent, but an improvement was noticed as the firing progressed, and when the last set of targets was placed in position more than one member recorded the possible number of hits.

Round the camp fire it was discovered that some of the recruits, if deficient in training were proficient in song. It was agreed that the club's record was

unique in several respects, notably that it possessed the youngest bugler in the world. That worthy officer, now 42 days old, had been presented with a bugle by the club, and his father, the president, was held responsible for the bov's due tuition.

Between 40 and 50 men were present, the popularity of the movement being on the increase every year. It is hoped to hold another route march early in February.
