A Copenhagen telegram says that a distinguished business man, belonging to a neutral country, reports that the commercial classes in Germany now realise that Germany has been checkmated in all directions. England is blamed for the collapse of the grand plan of cam paign, and this has aroused fero cious fury and the most intense hatred of England. Far-seeing commercial men realise that Germany's prosperity, which was at its zenith in July, is being sapped, and that a prolongation of the war will spell eventual ruin.

M. Caillaux, accompanied by hife wife who was recently acquitted oi the charge of having murdered M. Cal incite, editor of the Figaro, has gone to Brazil on a mission to encourage trade with France, in opposition to German merchants.
