LAWN TENNIS.
It is regrettable to see that the Rotorua Club has abandoned the idea of holding an open tournament this year on the ground of expense. The Rotorua, 'Club has done its best to make its tournaments a success, but they invariably end up with a loss, and it is too much to ask the Rotorua Club to face a loss each year chiefly for the benefit of Auckland players". There is no tournament centre with the same attractions as Rotorua. and that is the more reason that the annual tournaments should not be allowed to lapse. It would, therefore, be not altogether outside the functions of the Auckland Association to do something to support the Rotorua fixtures. By so doing tho association would be furthering tennis interests and doing Auckland players in particular a real service. The association has decided to send a team to Taumarunui to play tho King Country representatives on November 30, provided that a team can be got together that will bear its own expenses. There should be no difficulty in this mater, and the experience of the last team that, visited Taumaninui two years ago is a certain indication that players will have a most enjoyable trip. The secretary of the association. Mr. W. Hamblin. would be glad to hear from the secretaries of the various clubs with reference to any players who are willing to make the trip.
