Thk Canterbury Jockey Club's Metropolitan Meeting conoluded to-day at Riccarton in beautiful weather, though the east wind was a trifle keen. There was a good attendance tor the last day of the meeting. His Excellency the Governor and suite arrived before the first race. The track was in firstclass order, and with good fields engaged the racing was full of interest. The total investments on the totalisator for the day was £47,906. as compared with £44.338 10s for the same day last year. The total for the meeting was £162,825 10s as against £158,431 last year. This year's figures are a record for the club. The following are the details of the racing:— PORT COOPER HURDLE HAND-CAP, of 250sovs. One mile and three-quarters. Mr. M. Hobbs's Corrie, list 81b (R. McSweeney) 1 Mr. D. Rutherford's Daylight Bill, list lib (H. Coker) 2 Mr. D. H. Roberts's Kilmeny, 12st 91b (Sid. Reid) 3 Also started: Idealism, list; Beacon, list 13lb; The Pole, lOst 71b; Otatara, 9st 131b; Kingsway, 9st 181b; Gold Lock, 9st. Otatara and Gold Lock were coupled on the totalisator. The Pole fell, »nd brought down Beacon and Otatara. Kingsway was then left in charge, from Gold Lock and Corrie, with Daylight Bill and Idealism next, and Kilmeny a good way back. Kingsway, Daylight Bill, and Corrie, jumped the last obstacle abreast, the latter going on to win wL ly ; by eight lengths. Wharfinger immediately showed out in front, closely followed by St Elmn. Fire God improved his position and, going round the bend, he joined the leaders, but, breaking a bloodvessel, he was nulled up, leaving St. Elmn, Miraculous and Sartorze in front. Findhorn, with a clear passage on the rails, and Silver Shield, on the outside, both threw out challenges at the distance, but St. Elmn eventually won by half a-length from Wharfinger.
