RUSSIANS STILL DRIVING THE ENEMY WISE

LINE OF GERMAN COMMUNICATIONS THREATENED. REPORT OF AIRSHIP ATTACK ON WARSAW. London, October 2a It is officially reported in Petrograd that fighting has recommenced in East Prussia, where the Russians repulsed desperate German attacks on Nakalarzewo. Fighting west of the Vistula extends from Kutno, 90 miles west of Warsaw, to the Ilzanka River, particularly at its source in Jerzow Rawa, where part of the enemy's positions were carried. The Russians forced the Germans to retreat at Altandrano, on the Vistula, south of Ivangorod, taking prisoners 50 officers and 3000 men, and capturing machine guns and eight cannon. Telegrams from Warsaw stating that heavy columns of Russian cavalry occupied Lmedte on Tuesday cause excitement in Petrograd, as this threatens the whole line of the German communications. A German girl spy was court-martialled and shot near Petrograd. Her clothes were lined with admirably executed plans of Cronstadt and the Methe defensive works. A Stockholm report states that Warsaw was bombarded by a German air fleet. The inhabitants were horrified at seeing Zeppelins approach. Many aeroplanes also swooped on the town and dropped a shower of bombs. Russian guns mounted on conspicuous buildings vigorously replied.
