INDUSTRIAL AWARDS BROKEN.

Foe alleged breaches of industrial awards several persons were proceeded against by Walter Newton, inspector of awards, at the Magistrate's Court yesterday before Mr. C. C. Kettle, S.M.

W. J. Williams, Otahuhu, was charged with a broach of the Auckland Licensed Hotel Employees' award by employing an hotel assistant and failing to allow her a whole holiday, as required by the award. A second charge of the same nature was brought against defendant for a breach in August, 1914. A penalty of £2 was inflicted for each offence.

For delivering milk to a number of customers in Kemuera before 4 a.m. in September, 1914, thereby committing a breach of the Auckland Dairymen's award, Frederick Morris was fined £2. A similar penalty was imposed upon Viotor Price, Morris's employer. J. 0. Griffin, proprietor of the Oxford Hotel, Auckland, denied that he had committed a breach of the hotel employees' award. The inspector stated that defendant had employed John McKee as an hotel assistant, and had failed to allow him a whole holiday each week. Evidence was given by McKee that he had done a certain amount of work on his holiday. Defendant was fined £2 and costs. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES.
