The death is announced of General Kir Charles Douglas, InspectorGeneral of the Home Forces. The loss of Sir Charles is regarded as a serious blow to the army.

General Sir Charles Whittii>«ham Rowley Douglas had been Inspector-General of the Homo Forces since 1912, anil was a colonel in the Gordon Highlanders. lie was born in 1850 and joined the 02nd Highlanders in 1869. He served as an adjutant during the, Afghan War, 1879 80, and took part in the inarch front Calm] to Khandahar. In the action at Khandahar lie was mentioned in despatches twice. He served with the Gordon Highlanders in the Boer War, 1880 01. and was present at the battle of Majuba. He was assistant adjutant-general on the headquarters staff of the South African Field Force in 1899, and subsequently chief staff officer of the first division. From 19W-UO9 General Sir diaries Douglas was second military member of the Army Council and adjutant-general to the forces, and from 1909-12 he was the general officer commanding in the chief southern command.
