Sir, Whom tho gods are about to de[stroy they first deprive of reason, and is i there any doubt in the minds of thinking ; people that the German nation at the present time has been deprived of reason. All the nations of the world see and see plainly what the German nation seem utterly Hind and oblivious to. that they have violated all the tenets of the Christian faith, and have alienated themselves from the God of justice, honour, truth, and love. The Kaiser, with an idie fixe that he is the chosen partner of Almighty God has so obsessed his people with his own vainglorious ideas that they verily believe what tho rest of the world ; knows to bo false. Are they then not j deprived of reason ? The utter want of | honour, honour of which no nation prates ■ more, a.ntJ knows less, is probably aft in- ! stinct of hereditary descent, and no one j who will take the trouble to follow the .history of the Hohenzollerns will fail to j see how the sins of the- fathers have fallen upon the children. Treaties, according to German honour—save the mark—are only made to be broken, and very sacred obligation made by them is not trust unless it suits their purpose to meet it. If only ! half we read in the official records of their i atrocities is true, of their inhumanity to ! prisoners, of their crimes against the helpless, the wounded, the women, the little children and old people, then when the final reckoning comes what an Indictment of their own niakiug this "most enTightened, most humane, most progressive, and most deeply religious nation"' will have to meet. \Vo pray that the day of reckoning will come soon. It is not" the German people, it, is not the Austrian people that we are at war with, except for their blind and sheep-like following of [their bloodthirsty nvA criminal war lords. i The eyes of some of the people must by now be opened ; God grant that they will i all soon see with the same clearness of vision that those of us among the other nations of the world who are not deprived of their reason see so clearly now ; and that the blood-stained Kaiser and his satellites will be speedily put bark to the place where they belong, there to remain disarmed and dishonoured to the end of time - Arthtr Marsack.
