"^ A wounded Russian soldier says that there has been desperate; fighting in the region of Ivangorod, south of Warsaw. The Germans held strongly an entrenched position on a hilltop. The Russians, without waiting for the protection of-their artillery, reached close quarters and "hell was let loose." Men were stabbing, slashing and clubbing each other with their rifles, and even tearing at each other with their teeth. One gigantic Russian captain dealt out death on every hand. A regimental chaplain, carrying a cross, ignoring the bursting shells, blessed the soldiers as they rushed into the battle. The Germans came on in dense masses, and then the Russian ■=■ artillery arrived and mowed down the enemy. Then the infantry . made another tremendous onslaught and dislodged the Germans.
