BRITAIN'S ENEMIES.
HUNDREDS OF ARRESTS. HOME OFFICE ACTION. (Received October 23, 8.50 p.m.) London, October 22. Five hundred Germans and Austrians were arrested at Manchester to-day. Similar measures are being taken in all the chief provincial towns. The Government has decided upon a complete clearance of alien enemies within twenty miles of the east and south coasts. A Belgian refugee has been arrested in Dublin. He is supposed to be a spy. The Home Office has ordered the arrest of all Germans and AustroHungarians between the agea of 17 and 45. Two hundred have been arrested in London, including many wellknown men. The Star publishes an unconfirmed report which states that the authorities intend sending the prisoners to concentration camps.
