The damage caused by the destruction by fire of the Northcote pumping station at Lake Taiapuna is estimated at £200. The engine and pumps have been overhauled, and were found to have sustained only slight damage. Pumping was resumed yesterday. Messrs. George Court and Sons, Ltd., of Karangahape Road, paid out premium cheques to members of their staff yesterday to the total value of £2500. Thousands of job pairs of boots and shoes purchased from Wellington, being sacrificed at Pearson's Boot Stores, corner Upper Queen Street and Karangahape Road, Newton. An examination for kindergarten certificates will be held in the four centres during November, December, and January. Entries must be lodged with the InspectorGeneral of Schools by October 31.
