SUMMER GAMES BEGIN. The Papakura tennis lawns wore reopened for play last Saturday. There was a large attendance of visitors and Members, and the lawns were in excellent order. The first association match of the season takes '< place nest Saturday at Brookby. - A cricket match between the home team and one from the railway workshops was played on the reserve last Saturday, which resulted in the visitors making 200 runs in their first innings. Papakura lost one wicket for 16 runs, and play was then stopped by the rain. CLEVEDON. FLOWER SHOW COMMITTEE. The Flower Shew Committee met on Friday to discuss the schedule and prizelist and make the usual arrangements for their annual show. It was decided to hold it in November. The Clevedon South End and the Wairoa South Lawn Tennis Clubs opened their seasons on October 10, when large numbers of visitors were present. Light showers have fallen, sufficiently heavy to stop shearing- at times, but in ' no quantity to do good. Tho grass will bi seeding soon, and unless rain falls heavily the coming hay crop will bo very much less than usual. WHANGABEL ' AID FOR HOSPITALS. A very successful concert was given in the Town Hail last night by Auckland commercial travellers in aid of the North Auckland hospitals. During the interval the visitors were thanked by Mr. H. C. Blundell, representing the Bay of Islands Hospital Board, and Dr. Eraser Hurst. Whangarei Hospital Board. Tho latter mentioned that one ticket had been resold to the extent of £6 to people who lived too far away to be present. It is expected that the concert will result in a handsome amount for distribution among the northern hospitals, as receipts will be subsidised to the extent of 24s in the £. i TE AROHA. I'IAKO COUNTY COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Piako County Council was held yesterday. There were present: .Messrs. W. P. C'heppiejl (chairman), W. 11. Miliken, J. B. Thomas, W. Lockyer, J. Brady, and Orr. The Public Works Department approved of plans for the Te Aroha-Gordon Road works, and notified that plans had been prepared for extending the sanatorium road grant of £250. The Cambridge Borough Council forwarded a demand for the sum of £54 4s 9rl, being the council's proportion of the cost of redecking tho Cambridge High School Bridge.

The general estimated expenditure to March 31, 1915, and the proportion payable bv each riding according to valuation, is as follows:—Walton, £214 13s 4d ; Morrinsville, £238; Waitoa. £168; Waihoa, £154; Te Arnlia, £126; Manawaru, £219 6s 9d. The liabilities incurred in ridings as at September 30, 1914. areWalton, £298; Morrinsville. £522 13s: Waitoa, £514; Waihou. £213 13s; Te Aroha, £459; Manawaru, £1238 3s. The general receipts to September 30, 1914. are £1021 7s 2d; estimated receipts, £1441 7s 2d.
