La Bassee, where the German attack on the allies was most violent, is close to Bethune, south-west of Lille. From here the allies' line extends southward to about Soissons, and then eastwards to the Meuse, near Verdun. The cablegrams state that the Germans have attacked the whole of this line, but have been reputed everywhere. The Camp des B-oumaina fort, fr&m which the allies debouched to attack the Germans, is marked ou the map between Verdun and Tool.
