Gunson, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, returned from. Wellington by the second express tram yesterday. During his stay in Wellington, Mr. Gunson was principally engaged in attending the sittings of the Local Bills Committee during its examination of the Auckland Harbour Empowering Bill. General Sir Alexander Godley arrived in Auckland yesterday morning by the Main Trunk express, and spent a busy day. In the morning he inspected the" Auckland Infantry Battalion, which was engaged in tactical work at Kohimarama, while in the afternoon he inspected the Auckland Mounted Rifles, which carried out similar work at Mangere and Papatoetoe. Later in tho afternoon he inspected the Otahuhu camp, and afterwards proceeded to tho troopships and inspected these vessels. During the evening he witnessed nightfiring at the forts. This morning General Godley will inspect the troops at Devonport camp. He intends to return South, by tho noon express to-day.
